Fundamentals of Golf

“Learn the fundamentals of the game and stick to them. Band-Aid remedies never last.”
~ Jack Nicklaus

When I teach someone to play golf there are five fundamentals I focus on.

  1. Grip
  2. Set Up
  3. Posture
  4. Aim
  5. Balance

I find more often than not that when a player is struggling with their game, the problem lies within the fundamentals.

As you learn and practice these fundamentals you will find they will vary slightly depending on the part of the game you are playing – full swing or short game.

Keep in mind that you will tweak each of these fundamentals for your individual swing. I never try to change someone’s natural swing.  You have to figure out what makes you feel comfortable. What works for one player, may not work for you.

So whether you are just starting to play golf or have been playing for a while, learn and practice these fundamentals because they are the foundation for playing the game.
